Okay, I am probably late to this particular party, but - I only just clocked that there's a new Rivers of London novella out in about a week? And it's a Nightingale historical set in the 20s?? With Wodehouse overtones??? Which is surely crying out for 'what were Biggles and the gang doing for the whole of the 20s' crossovers????

Oh is it Rec Rivers of London day? ;-) Honestly, the best way to decide is to get the free sample of the first book ('Rivers of London' by Ben Aaronovitch) on Kindle and if you don't enjoy the main character's narrative voice in the first page it's not for you, otherwise you can enjoy Peter Grant, trainee London copper who meets a ghost on his first day and gets assigned to the secret magic branch of the Metropolitan police.

Oh, or am I remembering right that you're an audiobook person? The audiobooks of this series are absolutely fantastic, almost better than the paper books, I am not an audiobook person but I have them all and love them.

I’m a big audiobook fan because of how easy they are to fit into my day! I listened to the first five minutes of RoL and my first impression is that the narrator’s voice is illegally sultry. As for Peter Grant, he’s giving me younger + British Harry Dresden vibes and I’ve just clicked buy! :)

Kobna Holdbrook-Smith does such a fantastic job. He does all the accents and voices really well too, I love him.

I’m loving his performance! I’ve got no idea about various British/UK accents and it’s so delightful hearing him be everyone. And the book is so much fun as well. Thoroughly enjoyed Nightingale’s entrance as a beautiful, sardonic, posh gay man with magic <3
