Fic: Strange Meetings
Nov. 7th, 2024 10:25 amA rare New Fic appears, after all these back-catalogue bits! Since Fall Into Horror 2024 has had author reveals, here is the thing wot I wrote for it.
sholio put up an absolutely phenomenal prompt for Cursed von Stalhein, and you know I cannot resist an opportunity to make Erich suffer, often at considerable length.
Strange Meetings - c.19k, rated Teen and Up on AO3 primarily for creepiness. No major character deaths, quite a few minor character deaths; I've tagged it for death, suicidal thoughts, grief/mourning, illness and scars. Possibly should also have tagged for claustrophobia and Ancient Horrors From The Dark Forests Of The North, I guess. Angst with a happy ending. Focussing on von Stalhein and Biggles, with a small side-order of Bertie because the plot of 'Looks Back' demands I have him sitting in like a lemon in a couple of crucial scenes. Sorry, Bertie, I love you, and I did my best.
The first time Erich von Stalhein should have died was, as far as he could tell later, when he was eight years old.

This reveal comes much to absolutely nobody's surprise, I'm sure, especially as I talked about this concept waaaaay back at the start of September in ysande's journal. I had an awful lot of fun prodding von Stalhein in this, especially in the opening section, which was just. Pure October creepy-pasta entertainment. Thanks are due as ever to
gatty for ongoing encouragement and advice, to my partner T for helping me fix up the last section, and especially to T's father who loaned me some books about U-boats at extremely short notice and told me to give up on the concept I had about torpedoes. Probably for the best.
